Sonia Ziccardi was born in Genzano di Roma in 1993. She began studying music at the age of fourteen, beginning her studies in modern singing at a provincial school. Driven by a strong curiosity for musical language, she subsequently delved deeper into theory and solfeggio, earning her private degree at the "A. Casella" Conservatory in L'Aquila. She continued her education at the "O. Respighi" Conservatory in Latina, where she studied jazz singing with teachers such as Susanna Stivali and Francesca Sortino, graduating with honors. She also completed a two-year master's program at the same conservatory, graduating with honors. Her interest in interdisciplinarity led her to attend the "Cantiere Infinito" First Level Master's program in dance and musical improvisation techniques, an innovative project promoted by institutions such as the MAXXI Foundation, the National Academy of Dance, the Santa Cecilia Conservatory, and the MACRO Museum in Rome. Over the years, Sonia has enriched her training by participating in the Siena Jazz summer workshops in 2022, studying with internationally renowned artists such as Michael Mayo, Jo Lawry, Theo Bleckmann, Sara Serpa, Gerald Clayton, Nir Felder, Maurizio Giammarco, and Achille Succi. She has also participated in numerous masterclasses with musicians such as Bob Stoloff, Maria Pia De Vito, Rita Marcotulli, Michele Rabbia, Daniele Roccato, and Diana Torto, among others.
She has performed at numerous national jazz festivals, including the Ardea Jazz Festival, MuntagninJazz, Cori Jazz Festival, and Nettuno Jazz Festival, and has participated in artistic and literary festivals throughout Italy. Her homage to famous jazz figures has given rise to projects such as 'Blossom Dearie-The Baby Voice' and 'Nat King Cole in L-O-V-E,' which have been performed at major clubs and festivals, including Capolinea 8 in Turin, the Jazz Club of Turin, Cascina Nascosta in Milan, and Whelan's in Dublin. Her compositional talent has also materialized in the recent project 'Driade,' presented for Novara Jazz at the Mare Culturale Urbano in Milan. In 2018, she distinguished herself at the Paolo Randazzo Music Award, where she placed second in the 'Voices in Jazz' category, awarded by a jury of musicians chaired by trumpeter Fabrizio Bosso. She collaborated with Iranian musician Payman Abdali on the international project "Songs of Protest," in which she performed as a singer and songwriter. Sonia has undertaken an intense artistic career, featuring original musical projects and multidisciplinary collaborations. With her project "Nude," for which she is the author, composer, and performer, she combined music and poetry, performing in theater and on radio, including Rai Radio 1 Sport. Her work often blends different expressive languages, as in the choreographic-musical performance created for the exhibition "Abbracciami," or in the project "Onomatopea," in collaboration with dancer Erica Bravini, presented at various performing arts festivals. Sonia has also distinguished herself in the literary field. In 2021, she published her first collection of poems, "Spoglia," with Edizioni Progetto Cultura, which earned her first prize in the "Incontri" call, part of the "Hunger for Books, Thirst for Art" project promoted by GenerAzioniGiovani.it. She subsequently contributed to the collective volume "Pier Paolo Pasolini: 6 Questions for Young Poets," edited by Professor Angelo Fàvaro and published by Delta3, and to the choral poem "La nave di Amleto," dedicated to the theme of silence, for which she wrote two texts inspired by Leopardi's song.
March 2026 her first album will be released on A.MA Records
