After an eleven-year career dedicated to championing and promoting a fresh and original vision of contemporary jazz, A.MA Records presents its first live recording. It does so by highlighting the trio of Berlin-based drummer Bastian Menz, complemented by star Reuben Rogers on double bass (his collaborations are a showcase of the best of modern jazz) and the astonishing saxophonist Konstantin Herleinsberger, who, alternating between tenor and soprano at his hometown's Jazzhall club, demonstrates a talent that will propel him to a career of certain success. Beyond all the mental ruminations, jazz is essentially an instantaneous composition that unites the group and the audience, and thus the live performance emphasizes the evident strengths of a trio that walks the fine line between composition and improvisation with remarkable interplay. The album is based on seven original songs by the leader, whose titles already convey the idea of a journey ("Late Night Drive" and "Constant Motion" open and close the dance, along with "Taking a Trip"). Indeed, the music moves with a stealthy pace and great pleasure, much to the delight of the audience and anyone lucky enough to hear the album. The only two standards are "Emily," a favorite of Bill Evans, who recorded it several times, and "Social Call" by saxophonist Gigi Gryce, a testament to the deep roots of future jazz in tradition.
