Born in Cagliari, Italy in 1968, Luca Mannuzza dominated the 2000s with the High Five Quintet, which he formed with Fabrizio Bosso (tp) and Daniele Scannapieco (ts). The popular pianist continues to captivate Japanese jazz fans, and his latest album is a new quintet work featuring notable young musicians Paolo Recchia and Jordan Korda at the front. The program weaves together originals such as (1), with its graceful theme dancing amidst an irregular beat, and (3), with a sense of floating, as well as cover pieces by Tony Williams (ds) (4) and Bobby Hutcherson (vib) (5), creating a rich sonic space.
